Gartenstadt Nürnberg eG is a housing cooperative based in Nuremberg, Germany, serving the Nuremberg metropolitan region. Founded in 1908, it was established to develop housing in line with the garden-city movement. Its settlement on the southern outskirts of Nuremberg is described by the cooperative as one of the few in Germany to have consistently followed that movement’s principles and is protected as an architectural ensemble.16
The cooperative manages around 2,500 homes, including approximately 900 single-family houses. The historic housing stock includes homes with gardens and balconies; it has been modernised over time and supplemented with new construction.16 The organisation provides housing to its members on fair usage terms and says its work includes the ongoing development of its residential areas.1
Gartenstadt Nürnberg also operates a savings facility for members and their relatives. Deposits are invested in the cooperative’s own housing stock and help finance construction activity. Its current board members are Michaela Hack, Tilman Groetzner and Rolf Horrlein; Annette Scholz chairs the supervisory board.24 The registered office is at Julius-Loßmann-Straße 52 in Nuremberg.25
