Förvaltnings AB Framtiden is the parent company of the City of Gothenburg’s real-estate group, Framtidenkoncernen. The group is wholly owned by Göteborgs Stadshus AB, which is in turn wholly owned by the City of Gothenburg.313 Its activities are concentrated in Gothenburg: the group owns and manages more than 76,000 apartments across the city, and about one in four Gothenburg residents lives in its homes.1214
The parent company leads the group according to objectives set by its owner. Its eight subsidiaries work in housing management, commercial property, construction and tenant safety services; the group also includes Bygga Hem i Göteborg AB, which manages building rights.1112 The four housing companies manage the group’s rental homes. GöteborgsLokaler manages commercial premises, including premises around local squares, while Framtiden Byggutveckling develops and builds rental housing. Egnahemsbolaget builds houses and condominiums, and Störningsjouren provides services intended to support a safe residential environment.11
The group is described by the organisation as Sweden’s largest public housing provider. Its scale also includes more than 1,300 employees.12 The current group chief executive is Terje Johansson, who leads the parent company and the group.23 Framtiden is therefore a locally focused municipal housing and property group, with its housing, development and related services centred on Gothenburg rather than operating across Sweden as a whole.1112
