Eisenbahner-Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft Dresden eG, known as EWG Dresden, is a housing cooperative based in Dresden, Germany. It was founded on 5 July 1954 as the “AWG Deutsche Reichsbahn” by 14 railway workers, in response to post-war housing shortages. 12 The first building project began in Trachau in August 1954, and the first residents received keys in October 1955. 2
EWG’s activities centre on providing and managing housing in Dresden, particularly in the city’s west. The cooperative also offers commercial units and describes its role as providing members with secure, affordable housing. 61112 Its published figures list 8,595 homes, 9,859 members and 68 employees, alongside seven trainees. 1 These figures indicate a primarily local scope, focused on Dresden rather than operation across Germany or internationally. 16
The cooperative’s registered contact address is Kesselsdorfer Straße 161, 01169 Dresden. 10 Its management board comprises Antje Neelmeijer and Michael Reichel, and Claus Ludwig Meyer-Wyk chairs the supervisory board. 19 The organisation’s history reflects its origins as a railway-worker cooperative and its subsequent development into a housing provider serving a broader membership in Dresden. 12
