Coopérnico – Cooperativa de Desenvolvimento Sustentável C.R.L. is a Portuguese renewable-energy cooperative founded in 2013 by 16 people. It was Portugal’s first renewable-energy cooperative, established to involve citizens in building a fairer, more democratic and renewable energy sector. Its registered office is in Lisbon, Portugal.4812
The cooperative’s work includes investing in renewable-energy production, supplying electricity and enabling members to participate in its governance. It has developed solar photovoltaic installations in Portugal and sells electricity in mainland Portugal. Members can invest in production projects, while some of the electricity generated is used locally by partner institutions, helping reduce their electricity costs.11
Coopérnico operates nationally, with regional groups as well as its Lisbon base.5 The organisation describes itself as a social enterprise and says it also supports solidarity, education and environmental-protection projects. João Crispim is its president; the cooperative’s 2026 accounts announcement identifies him as President of the Board.13
