Cooperativa Edilizia “Giuseppe Di Vittorio” is an Italian housing cooperative headquartered at Via Ettore Perrone 3 in Turin. 27 It was founded in 1972 through the merger of several small indivisa-property cooperatives established by workers seeking affordable housing during the post-war industrial migration from southern Italy to northern manufacturing cities. 211
The cooperative’s model is based on collective ownership: it provides members with homes for permanent rental rather than transferring individual ownership of the properties. 14 Its original objective was to offer rents below prevailing market levels; the first two projects, completed in northern Turin between 1979 and 1980, comprised 688 homes and were rented at approximately 40% below the market average. 2
