Collectief Goed is an Antwerp-based cooperative company with a social purpose. Founded in 2015 following a community-development project by SAAMO Antwerpen, it works to make good-quality housing attainable for large families on low incomes. Its work began in response to the shortage of suitable social housing for larger households. 1311
The cooperative acquires vacant homes, renovates them and rents them to families at affordable rates. Homes may be acquired through ownership or made available to the cooperative, and its model has involved renovating social housing stock in partnership with housing and community organisations. 123 The cooperative is based at Gasstraat 12–14 in Antwerp. 612
Collectief Goed’s approach involves residents in the cooperative as well as providing housing: tenants can become shareholders and participate in decisions about the cooperative and their homes. 111 Its work also includes social support for residents, with assistance intended to strengthen participation in areas such as education, health, employment, language and neighbourhood life. 1
The organisation was established in Antwerp and its described housing activity is centred there. It has stated an ambition to extend its model elsewhere in Flanders, working with partners and shareholders. 14 The available sources do not identify a specific current executive or other individual leader.
