Chemnitzer Siedlungsgemeinschaft eG is a housing cooperative based in Chemnitz, Germany, whose history traces back to the founding of the Baugenossenschaft Beamtensiedlung on 22 May 1912 in Altendorf. 1 The present-day cooperative was founded on 1 October 1990, and in March 1991 it took over the assets and legal succession of AWG “Solidarität” Karl-Marx-Stadt. 12
CSg provides and manages cooperative housing in Chemnitz. It has around 5,000 rental homes, concentrated in the Kaßberg, Altendorf and Flemminggebiet, and Bernsdorf districts. 2 Its work includes maintaining and improving its housing stock, preparing homes for re-letting, and developing new construction projects. 611 The organisation also operates a savings facility, which it opened in 2009. 12
The cooperative reported having 55 employees and more than 98% of its homes renovated on its “About us” page. 2 Its governance follows the cooperative model: members elect representatives, who elect the supervisory board; the board oversees the executive management. 2 As of the organisation’s current imprint, the executive board includes chair Ringo Lottig, Michael Stötzer and Michael Weise. 8 The cooperative’s activities are focused on Chemnitz rather than operating across Germany or internationally. 2
