The Chemnitzer Allgemeine Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft eG, known as CAWG, is a housing cooperative based in Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany. Its registered address is Olbersdorfer Straße 25, 09127 Chemnitz. 3 The cooperative has operated in the housing market since 1957; its roots include predecessor cooperatives dating to the early twentieth century. 11
CAWG provides rental housing in Chemnitz, with a portfolio of more than 6,000 homes across five city districts. 13 Its flats range from one to seven rooms, with stated sizes of 30 to 140 square metres, and the organisation advertises more than 240 different layouts. Its neighbourhoods include areas such as Bernsdorf, Gablenz and the Yorckgebiet. 12
Its work includes managing and maintaining homes, refurbishing historic buildings and developing housing for different needs. CAWG says it has renovated more than 50 listed historic buildings in central areas of Chemnitz since the 1990s. 11 Its housing offer also includes specialist formats such as campus rooms, mini-lofts and the Wohn-Park Geibelhöhe, developed with older residents in mind. 12
