The Chamber of Architects (TMMOB Mimarlar Odası) is Turkey’s statutory professional organisation for architects. It was established in 1954 under Law No. 6235, the Turkish Union of Chambers of Engineers and Architects Act.23 Its founding general assembly took place on 15 December 1954 at the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts.3
The organisation’s responsibilities include addressing architects’ common professional needs, facilitating professional practice, supporting the development of architecture in the public interest, maintaining professional discipline, advising public authorities, and reviewing legislation, standards and specifications related to architecture.4 It operates nationally through branches, representations and local chamber representatives; the İzmir Branch states that the organisation has branches in 21 provinces, representations in 79 cities and chamber representatives in 145 cities.4
The Kuşadası unit is formally the TMMOB Chamber of Architects Kuşadası Representation and operates within the İzmir Branch structure.5 Its listed office is at İkiçeşmelik Mahallesi, Süleyman Demirel Bulvarı No. 31/A, in the basement of the Kuşadası Chamber of Commerce, Kuşadası, Turkey.5 The representation can be contacted at kusadasi@mo.org.tr and +90 256 612 28 90.5
Its activities include professional representation, member communication, public discussion and local urban issues. Recent topics published through the Kuşadası platform include earthquake precautions for buildings and ground conditions, protection of Latmos, the future of the SGK education and recreation camp, coastal and urban rights, and cooperation with local civic organisations.6 The wider İzmir Branch also publishes professional information and operates Ege Mimarlık, a publication addressing architecture, cities, space and social life.11 The İzmir Branch is headquartered in Alsancak, İzmir, and its listed branch president is Uğur Yıldırım.5
