Boligbyggelaget Usbl is a Norwegian member-owned housing cooperative established in Oslo on 8 December 1948 under the name Ungdommens Selvbyggerlag. 210 Its origins lie in an initiative by young people who wanted to accelerate housing construction and help create homes through collective effort. 911
Usbl develops and sells new homes, manages housing cooperatives and condominium associations, and provides related property and housing services. 24 Its services for boards include financial and property administration, project management, energy consulting, rehabilitation and maintenance, legal and insurance services, tradesperson and caretaker services, and training for board members. 2 The organisation also offers members access to new homes, rental housing, pre-emption rights on homes, and commercial agreements providing discounts and bonuses. 2
Usbl reports more than 125,000 members and manages more than 2,100 housing cooperatives and condominium associations across Eastern Norway. 2 Its geographic operating network extends from Sandefjord in the south to Lillehammer in the north, with 11 offices and the headquarters in central Oslo. 5 The organisation’s main office is at Arbeidersamfunnets plass 1 in Oslo. 9
The organisation is led by Chief Executive Officer Christian Vammervold Dreyer. 24 Other members of the leadership team include CFO Thomas Dørum, legal director Atle Thorsell, director of housing development Ole Halvor Svenkerud, and HR director Therese Gramfält. 2 Usbl’s 2025 figures included 122,965 members, 1,862 rental homes available to members, and 391 new homes offered with pre-emption rights. 6
Usbl therefore combines housing development, member services and long-term management of collectively owned housing, with activities focused primarily on Eastern Norway. 24
