BNG Bank N.V. is a Dutch public-sector bank headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands. Its registered office is in The Hague, and its primary address is Bordewijklaan 18. 68 The bank was founded in 1914 by the Association of Dutch Municipalities as the Municipal Credit Bank, with the original purpose of providing municipalities with finance for social progress. 4
BNG’s mandate is to finance public authorities and organisations operating in the public domain. Its customers include municipalities, housing corporations, healthcare institutions, educational organisations and other public-sector bodies. 4 The bank provides lending, payment services and other financial products, and its articles of association also permit activities such as guarantees, foreign-exchange transactions, securities services and financial advice. 6
Its activities are focused primarily on the Netherlands rather than on a broad international retail market. BNG raises funds in capital markets and channels them towards public investment, including housing, healthcare, education, energy and infrastructure. In 2025, it reported a long-term loan portfolio of €95.7 billion and issued €11.2 billion in new long-term loans. 2
BNG is governed through an Executive Committee and a Supervisory Board. Philippine Risch has served as chief executive officer and chair of the Executive Committee since 1 October 2025; other named Executive Committee members include Olivier Labe, Irene van Oostwaard, Amir Arooni and Peter Nijsse. 11 The bank’s stated mission is to maximise social impact through financing for the public sector. 2
BNG operates nationally, although it accesses international capital markets, including through social and other benchmark bond issues. Its LinkedIn profile describes the organisation as a public company with 501–1,000 employees. 5
