Bayerische Hausbau, founded in 1954 by civil engineer Josef Schörghuber in Munich, emerged from a family carpentry workshop near Mühldorf started in the 1950s amid post-war reconstruction. With initial capital of 20,000 marks, it quickly expanded, delivering over 600 residential units in 11 Munich projects, including the prominent Arabellapark neighborhood and 1,000 athlete apartments for the 1972 Olympics.
The company grew into a major player in property development, handling large-scale urban projects like the 2004-2006 renovation of Munich's historic Alter Hof into 20,000 square meters of apartments, offices, and shops. In the 1990s, it ventured east post-reunification, revitalizing Leipzig's Paulaner Palais and developing Berlin's Annenhöfe complex.
Today, as part of the family-led Schörghuber Group, it focuses on integrated real estate across Germany and beyond, with recent examples including the sustainable BIKINI BERLIN leisure site opened in 2013, a new Rosewood luxury hotel in Munich's Palais Neuhaus-Preysing, and housing for 3,500 residents on the former Paulaner brewery site by 2023. In 2024, it marked its 70th anniversary, emphasizing quality urban transformations.
