Baugenossenschaft Zuffenhausen eG (BGZ) is a housing cooperative based in Stuttgart, Germany. It was founded in Zuffenhausen on 22 December 1919 to help address the housing shortage after the First World War; the founding initiative involved local civic figures and received support from the then-independent town of Zuffenhausen and the Reichsbund of War Disabled People.2510
The cooperative’s stated purpose is to support its members by providing good, secure and socially responsible housing.13 Its history includes building rental housing and owner-occupied properties, and it continues to manage and rent homes as well as provide housing-related services.10112 The official figures page lists 2,028 rental apartments, seven shops and 1,212 garages and parking spaces, alongside 2,532 members.11
BGZ’s activities are centred on Stuttgart and nearby communities. Its website identifies Zuffenhausen, Rot, Freiberg, Mönchfeld, Bad Cannstatt and Rohracker in Stuttgart, as well as Ditzingen and Pfullingen, as places where it acts as a landlord.1 Its registered office is at Tapachstraße 1 in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen.4 The current board members are Bernd Heinl, responsible for technical management, and Björn Schnake, responsible for commercial management.47
