Barcode Architects is an architectural firm founded in 2009 by Dirk Peters and Caro van de Venne. The office is based in Rotterdam, not Amsterdam, and employs a team of about 60 to 70 professionals, including architects, urban designers, and technologists. Among the organization's most prominent recent works is Sluishuis in Amsterdam, an eye-catching, 49,000-square-metre residential block developed in collaboration with Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Completed in 2022, Sluishuis comprises 442 apartments, 234 underground parking spaces, and several community and hospitality amenities. The building’s geometric form, with dramatic cantilevers and an open gateway over IJ Lake, reflects Barcode Architects’ approach to design that responds directly to context and engineering challenges.
Current projects include The Robin, a distinctive high-rise within the Bajeskwartier redevelopment in Amsterdam, expected to be delivered in 2024. Other notable works are the Bibliothèque Alexis de Tocqueville in Normandy, the transformation of the Earth Simulation Laboratory in Utrecht, and The Brew in Berlin.
