Arbejdernes Andels Boligforening Aarhus (AAB Aarhus) is a non-profit housing organisation based in Aarhus, Denmark. Founded in 1919, it is described as Aarhus’s oldest housing organisation. Its founding aim was to give working-class households access to homes with gardens and outdoor space, which were uncommon for workers at the time.18
The organisation’s early housing included Villabyen Skovbakken, a group of twin houses near Marienlund initiated by carpenter Jens Perregaard. The first department was built in stages and comprised 101 homes when complete; later early projects included Teglgården on Vesterbro.13
AAB Aarhus currently has around 8,900 homes in 62 departments, with approximately 14,000 residents, in Aarhus and Hørning. Its housing includes apartment buildings, terraced houses and detached homes, as well as family, youth and senior housing.1 It manages and rents these homes and participates in AARHUSbolig, a shared waiting-list and lettings arrangement involving the city’s non-profit housing organisations.25
Resident participation is central to the organisation’s governance: elected residents take part in its representative body and departmental boards.25 AAB Aarhus has around 160 employees. Its director is Morten Homann, and its head office is at Langelandsgade 50 in Aarhus C.56
