The Gemeindewohnungen Kirchnerkaserne project will deliver 80 subsidised municipal rental homes on the former Kirchnerkaserne site at Trattenweg in Graz, Austria. The two residential buildings are being developed by ENW Gemeinnützige Wohnungsgesellschaft m.b.H., part of Wohnbaugruppe ENNSTAL, in partnership with the City of Graz. 2
A groundbreaking ceremony took place on 30 April 2026. The project is planned for construction over 26 months, with funding from the Province of Styria’s housing subsidy programme. The City of Graz holds the right to assign tenants to the homes. 2
The apartments are planned in sizes from 35 to 82 square metres, with balconies. The development also includes 43 underground parking spaces, a ground-floor local shop and open space for families, and is integrated with park and sports facilities. The site has good public transport connections. 2
Hohensinn Architektur ZT GmbH is responsible for the design, while Lederer-Grabner Bau Ges.m.b.H is the construction company. 2 The project continues a longer effort to secure municipal housing on the former barracks land: Graz Mayor Elke Kahr said she had advocated for the city to acquire part of the site around 20 years ago, alongside then housing councillor Ernest Kaltenegger. 2
