The former Télécom Paris campus is in Paris’s 13th arrondissement, near the Butte-aux-Cailles. Télécom Paris, founded in 1878, occupied the rue Barrault premises from 1934 until relocating to the Paris-Saclay campus in 2019.13 The Régie immobilière de la Ville de Paris (RIVP), the project’s developer, acquired the site in 2020 and initiated a wider rehabilitation and redevelopment covering six buildings.3
Philéas Architecture was commissioned to transform zone 3, which includes two buildings: a 1960s block on rue Vergniaud and an older building on rue Barrault, built in the 1920s.1 The Vergniaud building had served successively as student housing and as offices, teaching rooms and laboratories. Its conversion created 22 family homes, with the original staircase retained; some basement areas were also adapted as naturally lit duplex apartments.1
The rue Barrault building had also undergone changes over time, including a 1970s addition for the school canteen. In the wider redevelopment, Philéas’s work on the two buildings formed part of a broader programme combining housing with other uses across the former campus.13 RIVP reports that the complete site redevelopment delivered 343 student homes, 22 intermediate homes and 98 social homes, as well as offices for the French National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology (INRIA).3
The Batiweb article identifies Philéas Architecture as the architectural practice responsible for zone 3 and was written by Virginie Kroun; it does not identify individual project architects.1 The broader six-building scheme involved three architectural practices and covered approximately 32,000 square metres.23
