Antares, block C, is a former office building at Avenue des Pléiades 71 in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, Brussels, Belgium. Built in 1991, it was converted into 79 affordable rental homes by Inclusio, working with architects DDS+ and contractor Thomas and Piron Rénovation.1 Inclusio acquired the property in 2019; the conversion was completed in 2021.49
The building is leased to the Agence Immobilière Sociale de Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, which provides the homes as affordable rental housing.1 The project’s approach was to adapt the existing building rather than replace it: its structure and existing façades were retained, while reusable materials—including raised floors, doors and glass partitions—were dismantled for reuse by Retrival.1 Curtain-wall sections were removed to make room for terraces; the Ecobuild account notes that the design was developed through discussions with URBAN during the planning-permit process.1
Antares received the Be Circular 2019 prize for retaining the structure and façades and for deconstructing and reusing materials on site.1 The project demonstrates how an existing office building can be repurposed for affordable housing while keeping much of its original fabric.1
