Woonhaven Antwerpen is a recognised Flemish housing company serving people with a housing need in the city of Antwerp. It is an accessible point of contact for eligible residents seeking social or modest housing, or social credit mediation, and supports them in finding housing suited to their needs.23 Its services include renting, buying, lending and renting out housing.6
The organisation’s headquarters and registered office are at Jan Denucéstraat 23, 2020 Antwerp, Belgium; it also lists several service locations within the city.26 Its geographic scope is local, focused on Antwerp. The organisation’s current website also provides information for tenants and housing applicants, including maintenance requests, rent charges, available homes and commercial properties.2
Woonhaven Antwerpen was formed in June 2008 through the merger of four Antwerp social housing companies, brought together at the initiative of the city, which was their main shareholder.913 A 2018 account described it as Flanders’ largest social housing company, with approximately 18,000 homes and 34,000 residents at that time.9 More recent sources describe a portfolio of about 24,000 social housing units, while a 2023 organisational publication reported 23,800 homes and more than 45,000 tenants.812 These figures refer to different publication dates and measures.
Wouter Gehre is identified as the organisation’s managing director in its 2018 annual report and as a contact person in a later city agreement; these sources do not establish whether he remains in that role today.1311
