Winking · Froh Architekten is an architectural firm based in Hamburg, Germany, with additional presence in Berlin. The office has its roots in the late 1960s, founded in Hamburg by Bernhard Winking, and formed its current partnership with Martin Froh in 1997. In 2016, the partnership expanded to include Susanne Winking, Stefan Waselowsky, Frank Weitendorf, and Michael Sägesser.
The firm’s work is predominantly shaped by success in architectural competitions and public tenders, resulting in a diverse client base that includes municipal authorities, public institutions, and private entities. Much of Winking · Froh Architekten’s portfolio arises from these competitions, with a focus on both new buildings and refurbishments.
Current flagship projects include the redevelopment of ‘Alter Wall’ in central Hamburg, which integrates residential, hotel, retail, and office spaces over a gross floor area of around 40,000 square meters. Other ongoing assignments involve the renovation of listed buildings such as Hamburg’s ‘Haus der Seefahrt’ and the 'Centre Français de Berlin.' The firm also recently completed the Atelierhaus at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts and won a competition for a residential high-rise in Berlin.
The practice is engaged in both domestic and international projects, with previous work realized in countries such as China, Spain, and the Czech Republic. The studio is also active in energy-efficient building upgrades and hybrid timber construction. Currently, over 120 buildings have been completed under the direction of Bernhard Winking and the firm.
