WiD Wohnen in Dresden is a municipal housing company established to provide secure, socially responsible rental housing, with priority for groups facing particular housing needs. Its remit covers the construction, acquisition, management and operation of rental residential buildings within the municipal boundaries of Dresden; it is not a national or international housing provider.2
The Dresden city council approved creating a municipal housing company on 2 March 2017. The company was formally founded on 19 September 2017, registered in October, and began operational activity on 8 November 2017 after receiving the required municipal-law approval.2 The City of Dresden is its sole limited partner, and the company is structured as a GmbH & Co. KG, with WiD Wohnen in Dresden Verwaltungs GmbH as its general partner.2
The company’s registered seat and main headquarters are at Schützenplatz 14, 01067 Dresden; it also operates a northern office at Markusstraße 8.23 Steffen Jäckel is identified as managing director of the general partner, which represents WiD externally. Dr. Kristin Klaudia Kaufmann is named as chair of the supervisory board.4
WiD develops and rents housing and manages its residential properties. The company’s stated focus on social housing is reflected in its work to make rental homes available to lower-income households and other groups with particular needs.25 Its geographic scope is local: its statutory activities are confined to Dresden, and its website provides rental information, tenant services and information on housing eligibility in the city.21
