ÖWG Wohnbau is a non-profit housing provider headquartered in Graz, Austria. Its predecessor, the Österreichische Wohnbaugenossenschaft gemeinnützige registrierte Genossenschaft mit beschränkter Haftung (ÖWG), was founded in Graz in April 1950. The present ÖWG Wohnbau group comprises ÖWG and ÖWGES, established in 1974. 1511
The organisation is the largest non-profit housing provider in Styria and among Austria’s five largest. It builds subsidised and privately financed homes for sale, rent, and rent with an option to purchase. Beyond housing, its work includes kindergartens, schools, student residences, senior housing and the renovation of existing buildings. Its building and community projects extend across more than 180 Styrian municipalities. 1311
ÖWG Wohnbau also manages more than 33,000 homes and around 10,000 garages and commercial properties, and provides property services through its subsidiary Hausmeisterei. Its activities span project planning and financing, construction management, property administration and renovation. The company reports more than 200 employees and an annual new-build and renovation volume of about €135 million. 129
The organisation’s history includes an early housing project in Graz in 1951, followed by a rental property there in 1952. From 1953 to 1957, it built a 436-unit residential complex in Vienna’s Strebersdorf district. The company marked its 75th anniversary in 2025; its anniversary activities included planting 75 trees in parks in Graz. 1
