VAV Group is a rental-housing organisation owned by the City of Vantaa, Finland. Established in 1986, it was formed when the city’s rental housing stock was brought together under one company to support its long-term development and management.14 Its work is focused on Vantaa, where it builds, owns and manages rental homes and administers and markets the apartments in its portfolio.23
The group comprises parent company VAV Yhtymä Oy and three subsidiaries: VAV Asunnot Oy, VAV Palvelukodit Oy and VAV Hoiva-asunnot Oy.2 Their activities include developing and managing affordable housing, including state-subsidised ARA homes; building and managing service housing; and owning four care-home properties leased to the City of Vantaa. VAV reports a portfolio of nearly 12,000 apartments, with homes across 42 residential areas in the city.48
VAV’s stated purpose is to meet Vantaa’s housing needs by providing affordable and varied homes for local residents, while also contributing to the development of residential environments in the city.45 The group is led by CEO Mirka Saarholma, who took up the role in June 2022.111 Its headquarters are at Veturikuja 7 in Tikkurila, Vantaa.212
