Stadtimpuls eG is a relatively young housing cooperative based in Munich, founded following its initial meeting in February 2020. Its roots lie in the longstanding idea among founding members to create not only affordable housing, but also spaces with positive effects on residents and the surrounding neighborhoods. Many founders share connections dating back to childhood and come from both Munich and a variety of cities worldwide, contributing professional backgrounds in areas such as engineering, architecture, education, and the arts.
The cooperative was inspired by concepts of self-organized, communal living, influenced by utopian thinking and the book "bolo’bolo" which imagines urban life in small, active communities of fewer than 200 people. Stadtimpuls eG aims to break patterns of exclusion and promote solidarity and diversity by developing sustainable, inclusive housing. Participation of residents in shaping their environment is a central principle.
Stadtimpuls eG collaborates regularly with local organizations, associations, other cooperatives, experts, and the city administration to pursue its vision. It focuses exclusively on Munich, where the acute demand for affordable housing and vibrant neighborhoods is a driving force. As of now, the cooperative is in the project development phase and is working toward realizing its first residential project, aiming to establish living environments that are accessible to all social groups.
The organization's approach is characterized by a clear commitment to local engagement, collective decision-making, and practical steps toward housing innovation without relying on abstract promises or generic marketing.
