Spółdzielnia Mieszkaniowa „Wspólny Dom” is a housing cooperative based in Szczecin, Poland. Founded on 16 October 1958 at the initiative of 23 commercial enterprises, it was first called Międzyzakładowa Spółdzielnia Pracowników Handlu; its statute was registered on 6 November that year, with Szczecin set as its area of operation. The cooperative has used the name „Wspólny Dom” since 1962. 2
It began providing homes to members in 1960, when it acquired a 24-apartment building at the junction of Kołłątaja and Niemcewicza streets. Its first independently developed housing projects followed in 1961–62, delivering 92 apartments and 23 garages. Further construction included the Piastowskie estate and, in later decades, Arkońskie, Książąt Pomorskich and Bp. Bandurskiego. A 1968 merger with the Bałtyk cooperative was followed by expansion in Drzetowo. 2
The cooperative’s activity is local, focused on housing and property in Szczecin. Its current portfolio comprises five estates and more than 12,000 apartments; it also manages commercial premises, garages and land. The organisation reports approximately 22,000 residents across its housing resources. 2
Alongside residential development, the cooperative has provided cultural and educational facilities. These included a community centre opened in 1972, the Saniga cultural centre and the Klub Złotego Wieku. Its management board moved to the cooperative’s headquarters at ul. J.U. Niemcewicza 26 in February 1978. The history page does not identify individual founders or current leaders by name. 2
