The Rubner Group traces its origins to 1926, when Josef Rubner Senior constructed a water-powered sawmill in Chienes, a small town in South Tyrol's Puster Valley. What began as a modest timber operation has evolved into a family-run enterprise spanning nearly a century, now employing over 1,400 people across Italy, Austria, Germany, and France.
The company's expansion followed a methodical path. In 1964, wooden door production commenced, followed by log house manufacturing in 1966. The establishment of a timber construction division in Bressanone in 1974 marked the group's entry into glulam production. By 1985, Rubner had begun producing low-energy timber frame homes.
Following the deaths of the three founding brothers—Paul, Pepe, and Hermann—between 2004 and 2005, the third generation assumed leadership. The group reported consolidated revenue of 400 million euros for 2024, up from 385 million the previous year.
Rubner Haus, the residential construction arm founded in 1966, has completed over 30,000 projects ranging from single-family homes to apartment blocks, schools, and kindergartens. The company maintains vertical integration, sourcing wood from certified Alpine forests through its own sawmills and producing windows and doors within the group.
The Chienes headquarters houses the Rubner World exhibition space, which spans 30,000 square meters and includes production facilities, a testing laboratory, and display areas. Recent investments include 25 million euros allocated for renovating the Chienes site and digitalizing production processes at Rubner Türen, the door manufacturing division.
