Reneo is a Hamburg-based technology and asset management company founded in 2020 by Lennart Börner and Alexander Graubner-Müller, focused on accelerating the decarbonisation of Germany’s residential real estate sector. Operating with a workforce of roughly 100 employees across five locations, Reneo leverages proprietary software—the Reneo Core System (RCS)—to analyse and optimise the renovation and modernisation of residential buildings with poor energy performance.
Since its founding, Reneo has facilitated real estate transactions exceeding €500 million and, as of 2024, it has raised a total of €600 million for its operations from investors such as Eurazeo, Lakestar, Foundamental, Goldbeck, Bauwens, and others. The company’s recent activity includes investing over €200 million in the acquisition and retrofit of more than 600 residential units—covering about 40,000 square meters—in Berlin and Hamburg. These properties are targeted for significant energy-efficiency upgrades, aiming for energy consumption reductions of 30–60%.
In addition to executing its own projects, Reneo entered joint ventures with institutional partners such as Peakside Capital and Ardian. Through these collaborations, Reneo is set to deploy further capital (notably €500 million with Peakside and €100 million with Ardian) for “brown-to-green” redevelopment of multi-family housing stock. The company’s model combines digital analysis with asset management to address Germany’s outdated building stock—over half of which has an EPC rating of E or lower—by delivering large-scale, economically viable upgrades that align with European climate goals.
