ONUS Architecture Studio, founded in 2022 by architect Margarita Kyanidou, is based in Athens, Greece. The studio has quickly established itself as a collective of architects and designers focused on regenerative and sustainable design, drawing on international experience and collaborative approaches. Its work spans a variety of scales, ranging from private residences to public spaces and masterplans, with every project emphasizing context sensitivity and environmental responsibility.
Among ONUS’s recent and most recognized projects is the Horizon House on Syros Island, completed in 2025. This 230-square-meter net-zero residence is partially embedded in the Cycladic terrain, employing stone quarried from the site, reclaimed wood, and native vegetation. The project stands out for its integration of passive solar design, geothermal heating and cooling, micro wind turbines, and a water management system combining green and blue roofs. Horizon House was honored with the 2025 Architizer A+ Award and is noted as a case study in regenerative architecture for island environments.
The studio’s portfolio also includes projects such as aTREEum House and Earthy Cubes in Tolo, the latter exhibited in the 11th Biennale of Young Architects. ONUS’s design philosophy centers on circular construction, passive house standards, and enhancing biodiversity, aiming to minimize environmental impact while enhancing daily life. The team’s work has garnered multiple international awards, signaling its growing influence in contemporary sustainable architecture.
