Landsbyggefonden is a self-governing institution headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark.2 It was established in 1967 and was formed by housing organisations in the non-profit housing sector. 24 Its purpose is to strengthen the sector’s financial self-sufficiency and create suitable conditions for development across Denmark’s social housing sector. 2
The organisation supports and develops non-profit housing through loans and grants available to housing organisations throughout the country.2 Its support activities cover areas including renovation, operations, social initiatives and research, with schemes such as funding for renovation projects and energy-efficiency improvements. The organisation also produces analyses and thematic statistics concerning the social housing sector.2 In addition, it operates several IT platforms and online self-service systems for the sector.
Landsbyggefonden is governed by a nine-member board. The board is chaired by Jens Elmelund, while the executive administration is led by Managing Director Bent Madsen and Operations Director Steen Birkedal.8 Board members are appointed by sector and tenant organisations, with appointments running for four-year terms.
