Kölner Wohnungsgenossenschaft eG is a housing cooperative based in Cologne, Germany. Its origins date to 1920, when the cooperative began in Cologne’s Riehl district.6 The organisation is registered with the Amtsgericht Köln under registration number 43 GnR 668.2
The cooperative’s statutory purpose is to support its members, primarily by providing good-quality, secure and socially responsible housing.4 Its activities include managing, building, acquiring, selling and maintaining properties, as well as undertaking related work in housing, real estate, urban development and infrastructure.4 In practice, it provides residential accommodation and commercial premises, with a stated emphasis on regular maintenance, needs-based renovation and maintaining a suitable residential environment.1
The organisation’s headquarters and business office are at Schlesischer Platz 1a, 50737 Cologne.2 Its management board consists of Christoph Moossen, who serves as chair of the board, and architect Rainer Burkhardt, the technical board member.3 Dr Klaus Lützenkirchen is chair of the supervisory board.2
Kölner Wohnungsgenossenschaft eG manages approximately 3,000 homes, 50 commercial units and around 800 parking spaces for approximately 4,000 members.5 Its housing stock is distributed across more than 15 Cologne districts, with a particular concentration in the north of the city, especially Weidenpesch.1 The listed districts include Deutz, Heimersdorf, Höhenberg, Longerich, Mauenheim, Merkenich, Mülheim, Niehl, Nippes, Rheinkassel, Rodenkirchen, Roggendorf, Seeberg, Vingst, Weidenpesch and Worringen.1 The cooperative also reports housing in Pulheim and Dormagen, extending its operational reach beyond Cologne while remaining regional in character.5
Recent activities include a digital member portal, green tenant electricity and support for the “Genossenschaften für Malawi” project.1
