Kieler Mieterverein e.V. is a tenant association based in Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, with its main office at Eggerstedtstraße 1. 1 Founded on 9 July 1914, the association was established by tenants in Kiel; its first chair was Gustav Mallwitz. 7
The association provides services and advocacy on residential tenancy matters. Its core work includes legal advice and representation, alongside public information and engagement with policymakers, public authorities and housing-sector organisations on tenants’ behalf. 9 It also participates in the City of Kiel’s rent-index working group, where it contributes to the preparation of the local rent index. 9
Its practical support includes reviewing service-charge documentation, assistance with apartment handovers and meetings with property managers, and talks on technical housing issues such as heating, ventilation and preventing mould. 9 The association also offers members access to equipment that may help address tenancy-related problems. 9
Its work is primarily local, focused on tenants and housing issues in Kiel. It has also served a wider area: the association announced that its Rendsburg branch closed on 17 April 2025, with its work thereafter handled by the Kiel office. 1 It is part of the Deutscher Mieterbund (German Tenants’ Association) network, as reflected in its official contact details. 1
The association’s listed leadership includes chair Jochen Kiersch, deputy chair Anne Liebrecht and secretary Prof. Dr. Robert Häsler; Ann Sophie Mainitz is named as managing director. 4
