Hyresgästföreningen Region Södra Skåne is the regional branch of Sweden’s tenants’ association, Hyresgästföreningen. It has more than 48,000 members and around 500 elected representatives, and covers 13 municipalities in Skåne, stretching from Malmö in the west to Simrishamn in the east.11
The regional office is at Fersens väg 9 in Malmö, and serves the municipalities of Burlöv, Lomma, Lund, Malmö, Simrishamn, Sjöbo, Skurup, Staffanstorp, Svedala, Tomelilla, Trelleborg, Vellinge and Ystad.2 The region’s elected chair, according to the published 2025 regional board listing, is Håkan Björkenklev.
The association’s regional work includes rent negotiations, housing-policy advocacy and support for local tenant engagement; these are among the responsibilities described for the region’s tenant associations.12 In Malmö, its housing-policy programme calls for linking housing construction with job creation, planning housing supply over the long term, and building 3,000 homes annually, at least half of them rental apartments.1 The programme also advocates greater tenant influence during renovation, fewer people living in insecure arrangements such as subletting, fairer tax treatment for rental housing, and support for sustainable building maintenance.1
Region Södra Skåne is part of the national Hyresgästföreningen movement, which describes its purpose as organising tenants and working for everyone’s right to a good home at a reasonable cost.13 The regional office’s address and municipalities indicate a regional rather than national or international operational remit.2
