Habitat for Humanity Poland is a housing-focused foundation working to improve living conditions for people with low incomes and to prevent homelessness.2 Its origins date to 10 March 1992, when a group in Gliwice formally affiliated with Habitat for Humanity in the United States; this marked the organisation’s beginning in Poland and the first Habitat presence in Europe.37 The current legal entity, Foundation Habitat for Humanity Poland, was established in 2002, and its registered office is in Warsaw.34
The organisation operates primarily in Poland, with offices in Warsaw and Gliwice and activities also reported in Dąbrowa Górnicza.37 Its work includes constructing and renovating housing in cooperation with people in housing need and volunteers, developing approaches intended to improve access to affordable and adequate housing, and advocating for more effective housing policy.2 Current areas of activity include temporary accommodation, housing support for refugees, housing integration pathways, and a Social Rental Agency in Dąbrowa Górnicza.1
Habitat for Humanity Poland is part of the wider Habitat for Humanity network, which operates in approximately 70 countries.2 The organisation reports that its work in Poland has helped about 4,000 people and that it has built 120 housing units.23 Its current president is Magdalena Dul-Komosińska, who leads the foundation’s management board.9 The foundation’s statutory geographic scope covers Poland and other countries, although its direct operational focus is housing assistance and policy work within Poland.4
