Habion is a Dutch housing corporation specialising in housing for older people. It was founded in 1952 as a specialised housing corporation established to develop residential and care accommodation for older residents.13 Its legal form is Stichting Habion, a recognised Dutch social-housing organisation whose activities include the operation and development of social-rental housing.12
The organisation operates nationally. Habion owns more than 11,000 housing units at over 120 locations across the Netherlands, including independent homes and residential units in care homes.1 Its work therefore covers both ordinary independent housing for older people and accommodation connected with care provision. Habion describes its mission as providing vulnerable older people with a safe and comfortable home.13
Habion’s activities include managing and developing housing for older people, transforming existing buildings and supporting new forms of communal living. Its projects include “Liv inn” developments, in which housing, shared spaces and community life are combined; the Vijverhof in Delft is one example of a building undergoing this type of transformation.1 The organisation also works with care providers and local partners on location development, such as the Amerhorst project in Amersfoort with Amaris Zorggroep.14
Habion’s statutory seat and main office are in Utrecht, in the Leidsche Rijn district.211 It also has offices in Rotterdam and Lelystad.2 The organisation’s board consists of Peter Boerenfijn and Stella Vos.5 Its wider management structure includes directors responsible for portfolio management, housing and real estate.5
