Haag Wonen is a Dutch housing association based in The Hague. Its stated mission is to provide good housing in the city for people on modest incomes, and its work is focused on The Hague rather than a national or international housing market.3
The organisation’s history goes back to two predecessor associations: VZOS (Verbetering Zij Ons Streven), established in The Hague in 1907, and Woningstichting ’s Gravenhage, established in 1915. They merged in 1999 and continued under the name Haag Wonen.3 The organisation’s current board consists of chair Mohamed Baba, who leads strategy, policy, housing and real estate, and board member Anne Margreet Kremer, who oversees finance, ICT, business support, risk management and control.3
Haag Wonen provides rental homes suited to residents’ household circumstances and income. Its activities include maintaining and renovating homes, improving energy efficiency, addressing damp and mould, and, where necessary, replacing homes with new construction.3 It also works on neighbourhood liveability with residents and local partners, including the municipality, care providers, schools, contractors and neighbourhood organisations.3
The association describes its priorities as affordable, sustainable, healthy and safe housing. Its sustainability work includes making rental homes more energy-efficient, with the aim of helping keep homes comfortable and energy costs affordable.3 The organisation also works with tenants and their representative body, Huurdersorganisatie Haag Wonen, on residents’ concerns and housing needs.3
