Fundació Foment de l’Habitatge Social is a private, Christian-inspired foundation established on 23 July 1990 at the initiative of Càritas Diocesana de Barcelona. 57 It is registered in the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Register of Private Foundations under number 520 and classified as an assistential charitable foundation. 57
The organisation works primarily to combat residential exclusion by providing and promoting social housing for temporary rent. 510 Its target groups include people and families facing serious economic or social difficulties, with priority given to households with dependent children and people experiencing severe exclusion. 610 Its work combines access to housing with support intended to help residents regain autonomy and build a more stable life pathway. 1012
The foundation manages 461 homes in Barcelona and 32 nearby municipalities, including L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Badalona, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Cornellà, Sabadell and Vilanova i la Geltrú. 9 Its broader territorial remit is Catalonia, although its activity is concentrated in Barcelona and the first metropolitan ring. 11 The homes are either owned by the foundation or made available to it through free transfers or low-rent arrangements. 9
