Fond dostupného bydlení is a Czech non-state non-profit organisation providing social housing to people experiencing housing insecurity.11 It is registered as Fond dostupného bydlení, z.ú., with its headquarters at Na rolích 661/14 in Prague 4, Czech Republic.2 The organisation’s statutory director is MUDr. Jan Beneš, Ph.D.2
The organisation was legally established in 2020, following an earlier housing initiative by Jan and Eva Benešová.914 The couple first bought a flat in 2018 and rented it to a person in need; they later developed the model with the Platform for Social Housing.14 Eva Benešová is identified as a co-founder, while Jan Beneš is the organisation’s director.811
Fond dostupného bydlení raises money through loans and donations, including loans from small private lenders.11 It uses the borrowed funds to purchase flats and rents them to households unable to secure suitable housing on the regular market.11 Rental income is used to repay the principal and interest owed to lenders.11 The organisation states that the minimum loan is CZK 10,000.3
Its work is concentrated primarily in the Ústí nad Labem Region, an area described by the organisation and its director as having significant social and housing difficulties.312 Reported properties have included flats in Ústí nad Labem and Jirkov, and the initiative has also involved privately owned and other non-profit housing.1213 In 2022, the project was reported to comprise 19 flats.14
The organisation therefore operates in the Czech Republic, with a primarily regional focus on the Ústí nad Labem Region rather than an international remit.312
