ERSU Palermo (Ente Regionale per il Diritto allo Studio Universitario) is a public body of the Sicilian regional government, established under Regional Law No. 20 of 25 November 2002 to deliver university student-support measures in Palermo and its surrounding area.411 Its legal headquarters are at Viale delle Scienze, Building 1, in Palermo, at the Santi Romano university residence.41
The organisation’s purpose is to support access to and participation in higher education, including for students facing financial hardship.1113 Its principal measures include competitive grants and accommodation, alongside student services such as university dining; its website provides information on scholarships, housing and canteens.111 The service area includes students at the University of Palermo, LUMSA Palermo, fine arts academies in Palermo, Agrigento, Trapani and San Martino delle Scale, and music conservatories in Palermo, Trapani and Ribera.911 ERSU’s remit is therefore regional in reach, centred on western Sicily rather than covering Italy as a whole.9
The body is governed by a board of directors, a president and a director, with a board of auditors also among its institutional organs.310 The official site identifies Michele D’Amico as president and Ernesto Bruno as director.6 ERSU also maintains territorial offices and coordinates services beyond Palermo, including in Agrigento and Caltanissetta.12 Its public-facing channels communicate institutional information, initiatives, opportunities and calls for applications.7
