The Clean Air Action Group (CAAG), known in Hungarian as Levegő Munkacsoport, is a Hungarian environmental NGO founded in Budapest in 1988 by three local green groups. It has since developed into a national federation of more than 60 environmental organisations. Its Experts’ Board brings together around 60 specialists from different professions. 26
CAAG works on environmental policy and public participation, with core areas including sustainable transport, sustainable energy policy, urban development, protection of urban green space, and environmental reform of the state budget. Its work includes research, consulting, public-awareness campaigns, publishing and advocacy at local, national and international levels. 2
The group’s activities combine policy research with public advocacy. For example, it has called for measures to improve Budapest’s air-quality plan and has worked with German experts on measurements of methane and black carbon at sites in Hungary. 1112 Its recent public positions have also addressed fuel subsidies and energy pricing, reflecting its attention to the connections between environmental policy, public spending and social impacts. 1
The organisation is based in Budapest and works primarily across Hungary, while also engaging in international advocacy and projects. Its president is András Lukács, who has led the group since its foundation in 1988. 410
