The City of Arnsberg is a municipal government in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, in the northern Sauerland region. Its current form dates to 1975, when Arnsberg and Neheim-Hüsten were joined with twelve surrounding municipalities in a municipal reorganisation. The city covers 193 km².11
The city administration provides municipal services and information to residents through its departments, service portal and public-facing offices. Its website covers areas including housing and daily life, leisure and tourism, culture, business and economic development, sustainability, urban development, infrastructure and digital services. 112 The city also publishes official announcements and information about council business, and offers online services as well as telephone assistance. 1
Ralf Paul Bittner is the mayor; he was re-elected in September 2025 for a further five-year term. 5 The city’s main administrative address is Rathausplatz 2, 59759 Arnsberg. 3 The city’s official account on LinkedIn identifies it as a government agency and lists its location in Arnsberg. 7
Arnsberg’s history predates the present municipality: it was a seat of the Counts of Arnsberg from around 1070 and received town rights in 1238. 2 The 1975 formation date therefore refers to the present city, not the origin of the historic town.2
