Bochumer Wohnstätten Genossenschaft eG is a housing cooperative based in Bochum, Germany. Founded on 28 November 1899, it was established to provide housing and continues to focus on supplying its members with good, secure and affordable homes.23
Its activities are concentrated in Bochum: the cooperative reports about 2,700 homes across 16 city districts. Figures published for 1 January 2026 list 2,643 homes and 3,748 members.212 It also undertakes new construction, modernisation and maintenance, with projects including a new development at Beginenhof and a major energy-efficiency upgrade on Irmgardstraße.114
Membership is central to the organisation’s model. Tenants are members and can elect representatives to the annual representative assembly, which considers matters including the annual accounts and use of the financial surplus.2 Renting a home is tied to membership; the cooperative says membership is currently available only when it can also offer the applicant a home.1
The registered office is at Saladin-Schmitt-Straße 5 in Bochum.11 The current board comprises Jürgen Finken, Carsten Hoffmann and Nina Weiß; Dr. Pierre Plottek chairs the supervisory board.13 Its stated operating area is Bochum, so its geographic scope is local.15
