Blueground is a property management and hospitality company founded in Athens, Greece, in 2013 by Alexandros Chatzieleftheriou. The company emerged from his frustration as a frequent business traveler struggling to find comfortable, longer-term accommodations. Blueground leases residential apartments from property owners, upgrades and fully furnishes them, and then rents the units primarily to professionals and business clients looking for flexible stays of 30 days or longer.
The company started in Athens and expanded quickly, first across Turkey and the UAE, later breaking into major global cities such as New York, London, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Today, Blueground manages over 15,000 furnished apartments across 32 cities in 17 countries on four continents. As of 2023, it reported $560 million in gross revenue, a significant increase from previous years, and hosts nearly 50,000 guests annually.
Blueground’s business relies on directly managing its apartment inventory, offering end-to-end services including property renovation, furnishing, and ongoing customer support. It provides property owners with guaranteed rent and streamlined management, while tenants benefit from greater flexibility and convenience compared to traditional rentals or hotels.
Recent projects include expanding operations in Asia, acquiring U.S. rental platform Travelers Haven for on-demand corporate housing, launching a partner network to broaden inventory, and signing franchise agreements in Japan and Thailand. Blueground employs approximately 950 staff worldwide, has raised over $250 million in funding, and is preparing for a potential IPO. Its headquarters remain in Athens, with a robust international footprint.
