The organization manages extensive fiber-optic networks across Milan, operating over 650 industrial switches, 1,800 active network ports, and 600 access points. Its services extend beyond connectivity to encompass public lighting management, urban security through video surveillance systems, and smart traffic solutions. A2A Smart City oversees approximately 4,000 security cameras and manages public lighting infrastructure across the city.
Recent initiatives demonstrate the organization's scope. A partnership with INWIT and TIM has deployed 5G small cells on approximately 1,000 public lamp-posts in Milan, with initial installations already operational in central districts including Duomo, Brera, and Garibaldi-Repubblica. This infrastructure combines wireless connectivity with integrated services such as electric vehicle charging points and smart traffic management.
A2A Smart City is also advancing heat recovery projects, collaborating with data center operators to redirect waste thermal energy into district heating networks. A facility planned for early 2026 will supply 2.5 megawatts of thermal power annually to Milan's western municipalities, sourced from Retelit's Avalon 3 data center.
