Družstevní bydlení Mostecká 16 is a municipal cooperative housing project in Brno, Czech Republic, focused on the complete reconstruction of an existing, currently degraded apartment building at Mostecká 16. According to the project description, the building now contains 14 residential and 6 non‑residential units; after reconstruction it is planned to provide 25 cooperative flats. The project is part of Brno’s broader policy to develop cooperative housing for younger residents.
The city has selected KUDA architecture to prepare the full project documentation for the reconstruction, following a competitive public tender in which six bidders participated. The chosen firm offered both the lowest price and the shortest delivery time. Project documentation for permitting and execution is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, with the selection of the construction contractor planned for the first quarter of 2026 and subsequent start of works.
The reconstruction will involve a comprehensive redesign of floor layouts, an additional extension (nástavba), and the creation of new residential spaces in the attic. Funding for the project documentation, amounting to 4.6 million CZK, is initially provided by the City of Brno from its Housing Construction Fund and will later be settled with the newly established housing cooperative.
Membership of this cooperative is intended for young couples or individual applicants, with smaller flats than those offered in another Brno cooperative project at Kamenný vrch. The initiative is presented by the city as a pilot combining reconstruction of existing housing stock with cooperative ownership, and is overseen on the political level by Deputy Mayor for Housing Karin Podivinská.
