The Wüstenrot Stiftung, based in Ludwigsburg near Stuttgart, traces its origins to 1921, when a group of idealists in post-World War I Germany formed the "Gemeinschaft der Freunde" to combat housing shortages, high interest rates, and land speculation. Its 15th Design Prize, with 60,000 euros total, seeks resource-efficient housing projects completed by end-2025 in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, prioritizing material reuse and compact designs; submissions close January 18, 2026.
