Összefogás Lakásszövetkezet is a housing cooperative based in the XVI district of Budapest, with its headquarters at 1165 Budapest, Hilda utca 1. The organisation originated in 1972 as the Centenárium Ifjúsági és Munkás Lakásépítő-Fenntartó Szövetkezet and adopted its current name in 1992. Its establishment was linked to the city’s pressing housing shortage: large state enterprises such as IKARUS and EMG initiated the cooperative to provide homes for young workers and families in Budapest.
Over the past five decades, Összefogás Lakásszövetkezet has constructed and continues to operate three major residential complexes in the district: the Centenárium housing estate (with more than 2,500 apartments), the Ond vezér housing estate (277 apartments and a garage), and the Ostoros-Bóbitás housing park. These estates were developed in distinct stages from the 1970s to the 1980s, relieving local housing shortages and integrating social infrastructure such as schools and nurseries.
Beyond development, the cooperative’s main functions include property management, maintenance, and supporting member legal needs. They have also coordinated organised apartment swaps to assist over 50 families with housing transitions. Today, Összefogás Lakásszövetkezet operates from a single office, with no additional branch sites, and is led by a board chaired by Abonyi János. The organisation’s activities remain focused on the maintenance and operation of its residential portfolio in Budapest’s XVI district.
