Őrmező Egyesült Lakásfenntartó Szövetkezet is one of the largest housing cooperatives in Újbuda, a district in southern Budapest. The organization was founded in December 1974 and is headquartered at 1112 Budapest, Kérő utca 8. Its main activity is the operation and management of both owned and leased real estate, specifically focused on the maintenance and administration of residential buildings within the Őrmező housing estate.
The cooperative employs 18 people and, as of the latest report, has a net revenue of 266,778,000 forints (around 650,000 euros). It is managed by a board with 13 members. The estate itself forms a significant part of Őrmező, a planned neighborhood developed during Hungary’s period of mass panel housing construction in the late 20th century.
Recent projects include preparations for the introduction of remote-reading sub-water meters, aimed at improving water management and billing transparency for residents. The organization also coordinates and communicates essential information to residents, including notices about elections for cooperative officers and general maintenance updates for buildings.
The cooperative maintains regular office hours, operates a day and weekend emergency hotline, and provides channels for both in-person and digital customer service. It functions strictly as a housing management entity; there are no records of public procurement or EU tenders attributed to it. The cooperative’s activities are visible in everyday upkeep and incremental modernization of the nearly half-century-old housing estate, reflecting the challenges typical for similar Hungarian housing cooperatives.
