reSITE is a Prague-based nonprofit platform dedicated to improving urban environments by convening diverse constituencies involved in city-making. Founded in 2011 by American landscape architect Martin Barry, who arrived in Prague as a Fulbright fellow and taught at the Czech Technical University, the organization emerged from frustration with traditional architecture and urban design practices that operated in isolation from broader stakeholder input.[1][3]
The platform functions as a meeting space where designers, developers, artists, citizens, public officials, entrepreneurs, and others collaborate on urban challenges. Since its inception, reSITE has hosted over 150 architecture and urbanism events across Prague, Lisbon, and Berlin, with nine world-class conferences attracting more than 500 expert speakers from over 30 countries.[11]
Beyond conferences, reSITE undertakes concrete urban projects. The organization initiated Manifesto Market, a cultural and gastronomy venue built from 27 shipping containers on a former Prague brownfield, which opened in June 2018 and created approximately 150 jobs. The market became the Czech Republic's first fully cashless public space through private partnerships, demonstrating reSITE's approach of connecting ideas with resources.[9]
The organization views itself as a catalyst for urban regeneration rather than a traditional consulting firm. Rather than beginning projects with objections, reSITE starts with the question "it's possible," focusing on listening to communities, identifying problems collaboratively, and facilitating action.[11] This philosophy extends to broader initiatives addressing Prague's urban development challenges, including waterfront revitalization and sustainable city planning through innovative public-private collaboration models.
