LINA, the European platform for architecture and spatial culture, is based in Ljubljana, Slovenia, coordinated by the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Ljubljana. Founded in 2022 and backed by the European Unionâs Creative Europe Programme, LINA serves as a network linking museums, universities, research bodies, foundations, and triennials across Europe and the Mediterranean.
The organisationâs primary aim is to connect established institutions with emerging practitionersâarchitects, designers, and thinkersâat the intersection of architecture and related fields. The network works to shift architectural and spatial practices toward regenerative approaches and principles in line with the European Green Deal and the concept of de-growth. Each year, LINA holds an Open Call for proposals from emerging talent, selecting 25 projects whose authors are invited to become LINA fellows.
LINAâs activities are carried out by its member organisations through public events, conferences, workshops, and collaborative projects across Europe. Notable recent initiatives include the LINA Conference held in Copenhagen in October 2023, which brought together LINA fellows, member organisations, and invited experts to discuss strategies for creating more equitable and sustainable cities. Other projects, such as the LINA Writing Awards, support emerging voices and critical discourse within architectural culture.
The General Assembly of LINA, composed of representatives from member organisations, oversees the selection of fellows and guides the networkâs trajectory. LINA is co-financed by the European Union at least until 2025 and is directed by MatevĆŸ Äelik, along with a small team based in Ljubljana.
