Leeds Community Homes is a not-for-profit community benefit society and community land trust based in Leeds, England. It was co-founded by Paul Chatterton and Steve Hoey in 2015 and formally constituted as a Community Benefit Society in November that year.7 The organisation was established to build and enable community-led, affordable and environmentally sustainable housing in the Leeds area.7
Its work includes developing housing and other community assets, supporting local groups with funding and project development, running community share offers, and providing consultancy services.17 As a membership organisation, it is governed by a board selected by its members and relies on member support to maintain its community accountability.611
Leeds Community Homes focuses primarily on Leeds and Yorkshire, while its associated enabling work extends across West Yorkshire and beyond.39 Its current programme includes work with Unity Housing Association as one of Leeds City Council’s two Asset-Based Community Development Pathfinder sites in Chapeltown.15 The organisation also aims to create 1,000 permanently affordable homes and reports 16 homes planned, approximately £360,000 raised and 282 members on its website.1
Jimm Reed is the organisation’s chief executive and has been involved with Leeds Community Homes since its inception; he leads its projects and oversees development support for community-led housing groups.4 The organisation’s founders include Paul Chatterton and Steve Hoey, who served as chief executive from January 2018 before leaving the organisation’s leadership in 2022.712 Leeds Community Homes’ temporary address is The Common House, Leopold Park Road, Leeds.2
